Control Of Media

In todays day and age, everything seems to be controlled and edited before it is shown towards the world. True creativity is dying because all of our content is heavily edited and dissected before it is actually shown to us. There is a long line of producers, editors, and teams that morph what is shown to the world, which makes it difficult for original and creative pieces of work to flourish and feed the minds of our generation.

Producers and companies want to maintain power over media and its content because they want to keep control over how we perceive their message. This eliminates open minds and freedom for a lot of our mass media and their creators.

“Right now, many companies hold onto the idea that a brand may carry a highly restricted range of meanings, defined and articulates by official brand stewards. They avoid creating producerly texts because making material that is open to interpretation  leaves the control of meaning out of their hands.”

I believe that there is still hope for our generation and future generations to come. Creativity may be dwindling before our eyes, but originality still shines through in certain areas of our media.

For example, tv shows on Netflix still have original content that is left up to the people creating it. Blog posts like mine are still creating original content. Our generation cannot loose all control of power, or creativity will cease to exist.
